How do you make an elopement day feel just as special as a wedding day? If you’re considering eloping, this is probably one of the first questions that comes to mind. Here’s the thing—when planned with intention, an elopement has the potential to be even more meaningful than a  traditional wedding.

Here is a list of ideas to incorporate into your elopement day. Choose the ones that resonate the most with you and your partner!

1. Weaving in small, intentional moments. For example, imagine…

  • Having your family write letters to you, that you can bring along and read the morning of your elopement.

  • Sharing a quiet coffee together in the morning, enjoying the views from your cabin.

  • Helping each other get ready without the pressure of a strict timeline.

  • Incorporating a first look, if you still want that element of surprise.

  • Including symbolic elements in your ceremony, like handfasting or a unity candle.

  • Hiring a private chef to cook a beautiful meal for you at the end of the day, or enjoying a luxury picnic in a scenic location.

Having a destination elopement? Here's a fun idea... grab some post cards when you arrive and write your friends and family sweet notes on the back. Send it back home to them for an affordable and thoughtful gift.

2. Planning experiences that feel like an adventure. Your elopement should feel like an experience, not a regular event. What does your perfect day look like? Maybe it’s…

  • Starting a hike at dark, just to admire the sunrise together.

  • Taking a jeep ride through the mountains.

  • Bringing your dog along for a journey.

  • Taking helicopter ride.

  • Enjoying a hot tub soak at your cabin.

  • Going on a horseback ride on a beautiful trail.

Asking your family members to write you letters meant for you to read on your elopement day can be a special way to include them, even if they're not physically with you.

3. Embracing the freedom to celebrate your way. Eloping means leaving behind expectations and traditions that don’t resonate with you. This isn’t just a wedding day—it’s a reflection of your relationship, your love, and the life you’re building together. That could look like…

  • Writing your own unique vows.

  • Sharing a slice of pizza and a beer, and skipping out on the fancy food!

  • Leaning into your personal style! Maybe a white dress and a black tux aren’t your cup of tea.

  • Bringing your pets! Maybe including your pup on a big wedding day isn’t reasonable, but you can do anything on your elopement day!

  • Celebrating with a first dance, maybe even on a mountain top.

You can still do a first look when eloping!
